故事设定在1847年，一支英国皇家海军探险队试图在北极圈中寻找传说中的「西北航道」（Northwest Passage）。他们的船在途中遭遇一个可怕的掠食怪，这东西隐藏在船上，与惊恐的船员们展开一场「生存游戏」。与此同时，饥饿、坏血病与叛乱始终困扰着这支探险队。。The film follows a BBC war reporter and Harvard psychiatrist Dr. John Mack, whose careers were threatened by the investigation of the incident, as well as a former student who journeys back to the rural Ariel School.。
