John Ellman (Boris Karloff) has been framed for murder by a gang of racketeers. He is unfairly tried and despite the fact that his innocence has been proven, he is sent to the electric chair and executed. Dr. Evan Beaumont (Edmund Gwenn) retrieves his dead body and revives it, as part of his experiments to reanimate a dead body and discover what happens to the soul after death....。《税务所的故事》以北京某地一个城乡结合部一个小税务所为背景，通过以老陈为首的五名税务干部的日常工作和生活，展现当代生活的多彩画面，折射出税务干部和各色各样的纳税人的人生百态、苦乐悲欢。剧中的五位男女主人公性格各异。年龄、背景也有很大差别，他们各有各的生活观念，各有各的兴趣爱好，各有各的问题、烦恼、弱点甚至缺点。通过五位主人公之间、五位主人公和形形色色的纳税人之间不断发生的碰撞，在基层税务所这个小天地里，上演了一幕幕既令人捧腹又耐人寻味的人间喜剧。。
